Cambodia and Indonesia Sign MoU on Health Cooperation at ASEAN Health Ministers' Meeting

Vientiane, August 8, 2024 — On Thursday afternoon, August 8, 2024, a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. The signing ceremony took place during the 16th ASEAN Health Ministers' Meeting and related meetings in Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic.

The MoU, signed by Prof. Chheang Ra, Minister of Health of Cambodia, and Mr. Budi G. Sadikin, Minister of Health of Indonesia, establishes a comprehensive framework for cooperation between the two nations in various health sectors. This strategic partnership, which has received the high endorsement of His Majesty the King and the support of Prime Minister Hun Manet, is aimed at enhancing health services, building resilience in the health sector, responding effectively to public health emergencies, and ensuring the safety of health products and medical equipment. It also emphasizes advancements in health technology, including digital health and biomedical technology.

This agreement marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to strengthen the health systems of both countries, with a particular focus on improving the quality of health services, enhancing the welfare of citizens, and developing health human resources. These efforts are aligned with Cambodia's goal of achieving universal health coverage, as outlined in the first phase of the Royal Government's Pentagon Strategic Plan, Seventh Legislature, under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet.

During the ceremony, Mr. Budi G. Sadikin proposed several key areas of cooperation, including partnerships with Cambodia's National Center for Cardiology and Cancer, as well as collaboration and support for the Khmer-Soviet Friendship National Hospital. Minister Chheang Ra warmly welcomed these initiatives, expressing his commitment to further strengthening and expanding the cooperative ties between Cambodia and Indonesia.

This MoU not only reinforces the bilateral relationship between Cambodia and Indonesia, which has thrived for the past 65 years, but also serves as a testament to the enduring friendship and mutual commitment to improving public health outcomes in both nations. The signing of this agreement marks another step forward in the collaborative efforts within the ASEAN community to enhance regional health security and resilience.
